CAC holds golf tournament for
scholarships.
The 22nd annual Community Awareness Committee (CAC) Golf
Scholarship Tournament to took place at the Kennett Country Club on
Sept. 4, 2007. The tournament raises funds for student awards and other
community projects including the Mushroom Festival, Ag in the Classroom,
Literacy Programs and the Chester County Envirothon. According to Golf
Chairman Denny Myers, the tournament raised more than $40,000 this year.
CAC awarded $1,000 scholarships to nine seniors from four high
schools in Chester County in June. The winners were selected after
writing an essay about the impact of mushroom farming on the community.
Grades, community service and educational goals were also factors in the
selection.

"Mushroom farmers have supported our local community in
numerous ways in the past century. Helping deserving students continue
their education is an excellent way to give back to our neighbors,"
said Pete Alonzo, chairman of the scholarship committee. The Committee
has awarded more than $128,000 in educational scholarships since 1993.
