The University of Alaska Anchorage's Matanuska-Susitna campus plans to recycle 1,100 square yards of carpet removed from its facilities. The used carpet was to be shipped from Anchorage to a laboratory in the Lower 48 where it would be processed and ultimately re-engineered into rolls of carpet and carpet tiles. This recycling effort also helps reduce waste sent to landfills. Also, UAA typically installs products from Georgia-based Tandus, which consists of 35 percent recycled content. The company is a recognized leader in environmental stewardship.
