Alyeska Resort has started an $8 million renovation project, which will update hotel rooms, meeting space, a mountaintop restaurant and skiing facilities. Upgrades to the 304-room Hotel Alyeska in Girdwood will total about $3.5 million and include new carpeting, mattresses, lighting, artwork, high-speed Internet access and CD and MP3 clock radios.
Other renovations are scheduled for completion by the start of the 2007-2008 ski and snowboard season. New carpet and furniture will be added to banquet and meeting space, while a new retail shop, cafe and ski arcade will be added on the hotel's second floor. Seven Glaciers Restaurant also will be renovated. This summer Alyeska officials are tackling mountainside changes as well. Snowmaking efforts will be expanded to allow Alyeska Resort to open the entire mountain by Thanksgiving. Trail construction will widen several trails, and a new ticketing system is due to be installed for the ski season.
