James King has been selected as the new director of the state Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation. King, a Juneau trails advocate, has experience in recreational resource management, transportation planning and trail construction. The division, part of the Department of Natural Resources, maintains 121 park units encompassing 3.2 million acres, reporting about four million recreation-visitor-days each year. State park units range in size and character from the half-acre Potter Section House State Historic Site to the 1.6 million acres of Wood-Tikchik State Park, the nation's largest state park.
