* Fresno, CA mobile ice cream vendors may get a reprieve from the
city council there regarding their ability to park close to schools. The
council passed an ordinance in 2003 requiring vendors to park their vans
at least 1,000 feet from school property. According to a report in The
Fresno Bee, the vendors say the distance requirement essentially keeps
them from selling ice cream in much of the city. If they do cross that
line, they are subject to a $200 fine. The council is consider reducing
the limit to 150 feet, but some members still expressed concern that by
operating closer to schools, the vendors would put students at risk of
running into traffic.
