Market penetration by most legal software products is relatively moderate, according to the "Legal Technology Market Assessment Study" released this month by ALM Research (New York) and Cogent Research (Cambridge, MA). The study (almresearchonline.com) measured user satisfaction, market penetration and brand loyalty to technology products in five legal technology areas; case/practice management, document management, electronic discovery, client development/CRM and online research. The study also documents the proliferation of free legal information online. The average respondent spends about 40% of his or her research time using search engines to find free, basic information.
