Praeger Security International (Westport, CT) has released
"The Imperial Presidency and the Consequences of 9/11: Lawyers
React to the Global War on Terror," a two-volume set that is a
collection of reports, amicus briefs and other materials produced by
members of the New York Bar Association relating to the expansion of
presidential powers following the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The 23 reports
deal with the "rule of law" and the federal government's
decisions to expand its powers, and examine such issues as legal powers
of the President, the role of courts and legislatures, the relevance of
the U.S. Constitution, habeus corpus, and the Geneva Conventions.
Praeger noted that each report argues in favor of adherence to past
principles and includes a preface that places the material in historical
and legal context. The book costs $150.
