Airline tests onboard wireless Internet service.(COMMUNICATIONS)

Alaska Airlines will begin testing an inflight wireless Internet service in spring 2008. The Seattle-based airline would employ Row 44's satellite-based broadband service. Successful tests would lead Alaska Airlines to equip its 114-aircraft fleet with necessary equipment. Passengers with Wi-Fi enabled devices--such as computers, personal digital assistants and portable gaming systems--would have access to the Internet, e-mail, virtual private networks and stored inflight entertainment using the service. Based in Westlake Village, Calif., Row 44 is a provider of true broadband communication for the airline industry.
