Alutiiq Museum.(Right Moves)


Sven Haakanson was chosen one of 24 national grant awardees from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. He will receive $500,000 to support his work in the next five years. Haakanson has served as executive director of the Alutiiq Museum in Kodiak since 2000. He earned a doctoral degree in anthropology from Harvard University. He is leading a large-scale study of an Alutiiq site to identify and archive petroglyphs and stone carvings from the southern coast of Kodiak Island.
