Bill Streur was appointed deputy commissioner for Medicaid and Health Care Policy at the state Department of Health and Social Services. He previously served as director of Health Care Services. Cheryl Howdyshell was chosen as deputy commissioner for finance and accountability. Sherry Hill now works as assistant commissioner for public affairs, and Wilda Laughlin takes the post as special assistant in Juneau for the department. Nancy Heckmann received the James R. Walls One-stop Superior Customer Service Award from the National Association of State Workforce Agencies. Heckmann is Southcentral Alaska's Business Connection supervisor for the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Gov. Sarah Palin was appointed chairwoman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. She will serve a one-year term. She is the only IOGCC leader to have served as a past official representative to the organization. The group represents the governors of 30 member and seen associate states and promotes conservation and efficient recovery of the nation's oil and natural gas resources. Morton Plumb Jr. was elected to the board of directors of the Airports Council International-North America. He will serve a three-year term. Plumb is airport director for the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
