Sealaska Heritage Institute.(Right Moves)

Tlingit artist Doug (Kevin) Chilton of Juneau will carve a full-size traditional cedar canoe for display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. The project, commissioned by Sealaska Heritage Institute, will be crafted at the Sealaska Plaza in Juneau. Project organizers hope to paddle the finished canoe up the Potomac River to Ocean Hall, a new facility opening in September 2008. The canoe will be part of the museum's permanent collection. Sealaska Heritage Institute is the nonprofit cultural and educational organization of Alaska Native corporation Sealaska Corp. based in Juneau.
