Prefix IT has announced the introduction of new functionality in
PrefixNE V3.5 to automate the collection of license keys for Microsoft
Office products, thus eliminating a major obstacle to software asset
management (SAM). Many users fail to implement effective SAM because of
complex and time-consuming task of finding, tracking and mapping
software licences amongst their IT estate. To be compliant, not only
must users ensure that they have the correct number of users for each
application by site; they must also ensure that each individual license
is administered appropriately. With flexible office working patterns,
and a dynamic user base it is very easy for over and under-usage of
licenses to occur, thereby putting a company in noncompliance or at risk
of over-spending. In many cases, companies find that they have
unintentionally re-used the same license keys on different PCs and are
noncompliant, even though they have the correct number of licenses
within the organisation.
Prefix's software enables a network manager to pull Microsoft
license key details from across the user base with two clicks.
Up-to-date reports can be generated easily in real time enabling IT
professionals to take appropriate action and be confident that they have
full visibility and control of their IT assets. An additional bonus is
the ability to identify software usage across the network on a PC by PC
basis so that upgrades and patch distribution is streamlined and
simplified.
