Joint product integration.
Objective Interface Systems, Inc. (OIS), provider of embedded
systems, and Wind River Systems, Inc. have announced an integrated
solution for commercial-grade and real-time Linux applications in
distributed environments.
Responding to customer demand for a Linux solution that meets
real-time requirements and supports a robust communications
infrastructure, ORBexpress[R] RT, OIS's high-performance CORBA
product, now supports Wind River[R] Real-Time Core for Wind River Linux.
ORBexpress RT also supports Wind River General Purpose Platform, Linux
Edition, a run-time environment for developers who need Linux
capabilities, but are not constrained by memory footprint or real-time
requirements. This makes the joint OIS-Wind River solution especially
attractive to developers of non-mission-critical military/aerospace
applications with rigorous performance needs as well as
telecommunications systems such as software defined radios (SDRs),
network infrastructure, image processing and mobile handsets.
ORBexpress RT is a real-time Common Object Request Broker
Architecture (CORBA) product. Software developers use ORBexpress RT to
provide a complete communications infrastructure for embedded
applications for which performance and footprint are essential. It
promotes code portability across heterogeneous hardware environments,
enabling reuse of the same software code across multiple generations of
products. ORBexpress RT is widely adopted throughout the defense,
telecom, data communications, transportation, avionics, medical devices,
robotics, consumer electronics and process control markets.
"ORBexpress brings all the intrinsic benefits of
CORBA--upgradeability, reliability and high performance--to Wind
River's Linux platforms," said Joe Jacob of OIS. "Adding
only minimal overhead, ORBexpress makes seamless communications easy
among real-time and embedded devices in heterogeneous environments.
ORBexpress simplifies development of multiple generations of products,
both speeding development and saving money."
