Synergetics Incorporated, a Fort Collins, Colorado based IT
services company was awarded the Federal Logistics Data (FED LOG)
contract by the Defense Logistics Information Service (DLIS) valued at
over $9 million. This contract, issued by the Document Automation and
Production Service (DAPS) is for the publication and dissemination of
FED LOG on portable media.
Rajiv Mehta, president and CEO of Synergetics Incorporated
announced, "We are honored to have the opportunity to support DLIS
and their mission in Department of Defense (DOD) supply chain management
using our Electronic Commerce Code Management Association (ECCMA)
(http://eccma.org/) and International Standards Organization (ISO)
standards-based solution."
Synergetics' Integrated Mobile Database (IMD) suite is the
first and only ECCMA-ISO 8000-110 certified product. Synergetics will
provide its ECCMA and ISO certified IMD technology suite to sustain the
current DLIS portable media product (FED LOG) and to develop an
upgraded, adaptive and more capable method to deliver information via
portable media for use in U.S. Military and other Government logistics
operations and supply chain management.
The DLIS mission is to provide interoperable, integrated, quality
logistics data and enterprise IT solutions for joint warfighters, the
Military Services, the Defense Department, other Federal agencies and
international partners in order to optimize the effectiveness and
efficiency of the DOD supply chain. FED LOG is a catalog of logistics
data used by DLIS customers. FED LOG on portable media is the primary
product produced and delivered by DLIS.
DLIS is faced with providing logistical data to the warfighter in
environments in which access to telecommunications and connectivity can
be very limited or nonexistent. In these environments, mobile
media-based products containing databases and data views, combined with
robust access tools, play an essential role in assuring operational
success. FED LOG is distributed to users worldwide via CD-ROM or DVD
format.
Data quality continues to be an important initiative at DLIS. By
adopting standards such as ISO 8000-110 and ISO 22745 (a standard that
defines open technical dictionaries), DLIS will maintain data quality by
specifying the data it needs and obtaining it directly from
manufacturers in a standard usable format.
Synergetics' IMD solution solves problems with managing and
distributing data in technology constrained environments such as
limited, intermittent, and low bandwidth Internet access. This is a
frequent technology constraint for national and global organizations.
Storing and accessing logistics data, parts catalogs, or inventory data
from portable media and devices is a challenge for organizations with
end-users that are constrained to small footprint media solutions.
The ECCMA mission is to develop, maintain and promote the ECCMA
Open Technical Dictionary (eOTD) to provide unambiguous labeling
standards that are essential for data exchange between DOD/North
Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) agencies and commercial vendors.
Synergetics' IMD suite provides data compression, data
storage, data production and retrieval tools to produce ECCMA and ISO
certified portable media versions of the original data. IMD's
logistic data compression and query performance is unequalled in the
marketplace.
Synergetics' certified IMD solution will be used by DLIS and
is available to other government agencies and commercial vendors facing
similar challenges in distributing mission critical data via portable
media and devices.
