* Datamonitor's Productscan Online has named its "Ten
Trends to Watch in 2008" for consumer packaged goods. Productscan
says to expect more probiotics in dairy products other than yogurt;
organic foods & beverages for kids; more "fresh" packaged
foods, that rely in steaming as a cooking method; mass marketing of
"superfruits"; an influx of African ingredients like shea
butter and baobab oil; foods with "sleep aid" ingredients;
more "crunchy" and/or "crispy" foods; bold flavors
that appeal to aging boomers losing their taste buds; use of caffeine in
a wider assortment of foods; and the continued greening of production
and packaging methods. Ice Cream Reporter finds it interesting that
consumers want foods with caffeine but then need foods that help them
get to sleep.
