E.U. Wurlitzer, a fixture in the Boston market for 107 years, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on September 23. The six-store chain will continue operation while investigating a variety of new financing options. The company's long-running financial problems were exacerbated by the competitive pressure of three new Guitar Center locations in the Boston market. Gene Joly, general manager, remained optimistic, however. "We will work through this," he said.
