The Institute on Global Drug Policy and the International
Scientific and Medical Forum on Drug Abuse (St. Petersburg, FL) have
begun the co-publication of the "Journal of Global Drug Policy and
Practice," a new online/print journal whose goal is to "bridge
the information gap between the medical-scientific community,
policymakers, legal practitioners and the public," including
attorneys, clinicians, clinical researchers, prevention specialists and
government officials. It will be published four times a year.
Content includes information and articles on news and developments
in public health policy, case studies of litigation related to public
health facilities and penal institutions, medical research,
international drug policy and enforcement, national legal and
legislative developments, and case studies of drug policy programs.
Initial issues include articles on: the effectiveness of needle
exchange programs for HIV prevention; evaluations of the effects of safe
injection facilities; the public dangers of drug abuse in prisons; harm
reduction as drug policy; the current status and future potential of
marijuana and cannabinoid research; drug penalties and adolescents; and,
the legalization of marijuana.
The Institute is a division of Drug Free America Foundation, an
organization that advocates public policies to curtail the illegal use
of alcohol and harmful drugs and works towards reducing all alcohol,
tobacco and illicit drug use.
