LexisNexis Mealey's (King of Prussia, PA) will begin the
publication of "Mealey's Diabetes Drugs Report" with a
November issue. The new litigation report will be published monthly and
an annual subscription costs $649.
Mealey said the new title will cover developments with all diabetes
drugs currently under scientific and legal scrutiny and will include new
suit filings, class actions, trials, settlements, rulings, medical
studies, FDA action and industry developments. It will also carry new
complaints, breaking news, summaries of ongoing cases and trial updates.
Mealey said the report is being launched in response to the
increase in litigation involving diabetes drugs, particularly Type 2
diabetes drugs, including Avandia and Actos, both of which are suspected
of raising the risks of heart attacks and heart failure, respectively.
Initial issues will cover stories on: the creation and assignment
of an Avandia multidistrict litigation docket; the U.S. Supreme
Court's decision to hear its first case on the issue of federal
preemption of drug liability claims; the results of a study on the use
of Avandia; plaintiff laywers' decision on whether to press claims
based on heart attacks or heart failure; the filing of a complaint
seeking certification of a national Avandia medical monitoring and
refund class; and, litigation based on cardiac arrest of a user of
Avandamet, a drug that contains Avandia.
Related Mealey litigation reports include "Mealey's
Emerging Drugs & Devices," "Litigation Report: Arthritis
Drugs," "Litigation Report: Ephedra & PPA,"
"Litigation Report: Fen-Phen/Redux" and "Litigation
