China GrenTech Corporation Limited (Nasdaq: GRRF), has won the bid
and signed the preliminary contract to supply China Telecom with
wireless local area network access point (WLAN AP) equipment in
Guangdong province in 2008. The wireless local area network will meet
the increasing demand for data services, particularly for the upcoming
2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou and the 2011 Universiades in Shenzhen. In
addition to becoming a qualified supplier of WLAN AP for China Telecom
in Guangdong province this year, GrenTech also participated in a number
of China Telecom's wireless network bridge projects in Hunan,
Sichuan, Jiangxi and Guangxi provinces in 2007. GrenTech was also
selected to be a supplier of WLAN equipment for China Mobile's
Olympic network last year.
Chinese telecom operators are progressively developing data service
offerings for the growing number of WiFi-enabled handheld devices,
leading to an increasing demand for WLAN services. Based on the forecast
of a premier global industry analyst, China's WLAN market size will
grow to approximately RMB3.7 billion by 2011. GrenTech's management
believes that the new order announced helps to demonstrate
GrenTech's strong technical capabilities and high standards for
service. Revenue from the WLAN product segment is expected to continue
its rapid growth, becoming a new growth driver for the company.
