INTRODUCTIONS
HERING INSTRUMENTS of Brazil, known worldwide for its line of
Harmonicas, has teamed with Greenpeace and the Forest Stewardship
Council (FSC) to offer an electric guitar that is 100% environmentally
friendly. The instrument, called "Redeemer--the Greenpeace
Guitar," will be first seen at the 2008 winter NAMM in Anaheim,
California. All parts and manufacturing processes used in the making of
this product are approved by the world's most recognized and
respected environment defenders.
The project, headed by Hering CEO Alberto Bertolazzi, is part of
the company's strategy to adapt to a new level of environmental
awareness. In partnership with IBAMA, the Brazilian governmental agency
for natural resources issues, Hering has studied and defined a new set
of woods for the construction of the instruments. Sourced entirely from
sustainably harvested Amazonian species, these woods have been tested
and found to have all the necessary features for great tone,
playability, and sustain. This Forest Stewardship Council certified wood
comes from 1.8 million hectares of "managed" forest in the
state of Acre, where trees may be harvested only after detailed
assessments based on their age, location and the rate of extraction. The
Greenpeace seal of approval displayed in the guitar bodies signifies
that all materials and processes have met strict guidelines and are
closely inspected by the activists.
Redeemer is being initially offered in two body shapes: a
classic-style body with a single-coil (neck) and humbucker (bridge), and
a modern-style two-cut-away body with two humbuckers. Custom pickups
made with wood covers give the guitars a truly unique look. Custom
orders are being accepted.
