THE SCHIEDMAYER Company of Stuttgart, Germany, has been manufacturing Celestas since 1890 and has supplied instruments to the world's top symphonies, including The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Symphonic Orchestras, and the Berliner Philharmoniker. At this year's NAMM show, the company will unveil a new generation of products that, according to Elaine Schiedmayer, "offer an incomparable light touch with an unsurpassed fullness of sound and superb instrumental quality."

The Celesta was first invented by Victor Mustel in Paris. He obtained a patent in 1886 for the musical instrument he named "celesta." According to his patent the sound plates must be placed above the wooden resonators and struck from above by felt covered hammers. Besides the Celesta (four models from 4 to 5.5 octave range), Schiedmayer produces keyboard glockenspiels as well as glockenspiel for pipe organs.
