* US airline and pilot associations are up in arms over the Lieberman-Warner "Climate Security Act", which proposes to include jet fuel in a cap-and-trade greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme. The airlines say the legislation would essentially, serve as an additional tax on fuel, increasing airline costs and compromising the industry s ability to invest in new aircraft and other fleet upgrades - "the very things we need to continue to improve our emissions profile". They. suggest that Congress might be better advised to speed up modernisation of the US ATC system, which has the potential to reduce GHG emissions by 10-15%.
