Metalcasting documentary filmed in January, coming
soon to PBS.
In January, National Public Television filmed a metalcasting
documentary at Signicast Corp., Hartford, Wis., for "Spolight
On." Sponsored by the American Foundry Society, the "Spotlight
on Metalcasting" will run on PBS.
The documentary is intended to educate the general public on the
nature of metal castings, processes of metalcasting and the positive
ways metal castings affect everyone's lives. It also demonstrates
metalcasting's role in recycling waste products, as well as in the
economy and U.S. national defense.
The 5 minute television spot is scheduled to air for the first time
in late spring, but it will continue to appear over the next year.
According to the show's producer Trivue Entertainment, Watchung,
N.J., the short program will air a minimum of 500 times and on average
reach at least 3 million viewers nationwide per broadcast. Trivue
estimates that approximately 40% of the airings will be during prime
time.
"Spotlight On" has been airing shorts about a variety of
industries for more than 17 years. The portions filmed at Signicast
Corp., one of the most technologically advanced metalcasting facilities
in North America, illustrate the advancements in the metalcasting
industry. Signicast pours steel, copper-base, nickel-base and
cobalt-base alloys in the investment process. With 670 employees, it
serves the power tool, hand tool, fluid handling, heavy equipment, lawn
and garden, railroad, firearms, fitness equipment, safety, agriculture,
recreational vehicle and electronic control industries.
