Stealing is good. So is sharing. Larry Reisman, Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers in Florida, is a good example. He "stole" an editorial idea used by several NCEW members and put his own twist on it. His newspapers' New Year's Day editorial page presented a collection of "Headlines we'd like to see in 2008" from the editorial board and from readers.

We hope you'll find that editorial page, and many other examples, in the next edition of NCEW collection of "Best Stealable Ideas."

But we need your help. Start putting aside PDFs and multimedia files to share: innovative projects, unusual writing, new twists on old ideas--and even out-of-the-box pages that didn't work quite as well as you'd like but were worth trying.

Here are some examples from the inaugural "Best Stealable Ideas" CD that Paul Harral of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram put together for distribution at the Kansas City convention last year.

If you didn't get a CD, you can contact NCEW headquarters for one. There's no charge. However, you're welcome to make a donation of a few dollars to cover production expenses. To save money, we suggest one CD per newsroom, but members are free to make copies for one another.
