Veterans program promotes business ownership and education.

More than 1,000 honorably-discharged veterans have taken advantage of the opportunity for small-business ownership via the Veterans Transition Franchise Initiative known as VetFran. The International Franchise Association offers the program to its nearly 1,300 franchise system members, of which nearly 300 currently participate.

The program enables military veterans to jumpstart their business ownership dreams by providing financial assistance from IFA participating member companies. The voluntary program, which receives no government money has been recognized by several government agencies.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs signed an official Memorandum of Understanding with the association to jointly promote the program and the initiative. The U.S. Small Business Administration also recognizes the program.

IFA also renewed its efforts to work with Congress to amend the GI Bill so that prospective veteran-franchisees will be able to use a portion of their educationalal benefits to pay for the training of operating franchises. The association also offers veterans free admission to its trades shows and educational seminars.
