DURHAM -- Carlsbad, Calif.-based Invitrogen plans to buy
CellzDirect, which supplies liver cells and other cell-based products
for drug research, for $57 million. Invitrogen sells more than 25,000
products used to research diseases and drugs. About half its 90
employees work here, with the rest in Austin, Texas. CellzDirect does
not expect any layoffs.
