The government of Abu Dhabi and WWF, formerly the World Wildlife Fund, recently unveiled a sustainability strategy to make Masdar the world's greenest city.
Masdar City will be the world's first zero-carbon, zero-waste, car-free city, meeting or exceeding a set of stringent sustainability goals established under the "One Planet Living," a program established by WWF and environmental consultancy BioRegional. Through the program, WWF will work with Masdar to ensure the city meets standards of sustainability, which include specific targets for the city's ecological footprint. Masdar City plans to exceed the criteria of the program, making it a global benchmark for sustainable urban development.
