Berkeley Electronic Press (BEP; Berkeley, CA) has released the
first issue of "Studies in Ethics, Law and Technology," a new
"policy-focused" journal that examines the ethical and legal
issues that arise from emerging technologies. An annual subscription to
the new quarterly costs $275 for academic institutions and $825 for
businesses.
BEP said the new journal is the first title to focus on not just on
issues of bioethics but also the broad range of ethical issues relevant
to all technologies and their impact on the environment, society, and
humanity. Topics covered include biotechnology, nanotechnology,
neurotechnology, information technology, weapons, energy and fuel,
space-based technology, and new media and communications.
Articles discuss the synergy between law and ethics and are
designed to provide a policy response to technology's opportunities
and challenges. The premier issue focuses on issues of human
enhancement, including sports and enhancement research, social
perspectives and genetic enhancement, virtue ethics and prenatal genetic
enhancement, enhancement and its relation to eugenics, genetic
enhancement and procreative autonomy, societal considerations of life
span extension, medical nanorobotics, and related aging intervention
research.
Related BEP legal journals include "Review of Law &
Economics," "Muslim World Journal of Human Rights,"
"Journal of Tort Law," "Theoretical Inquiries in
Law," "Issues in Legal Scholarship," "Global
Jurist," "International Commentary on Evidence" and
"Asian Journal of Comparative Law."
