Sybase iAnywhere unveils Advantage Database
Server.
Sybase iAnywhere have announced the release of Advantage Database
Server[TM] 9. The updated features include support for Visual FoxPro 9,
performance boosts for large transactions, reduced end user
configuration requirements and the addition of key functionality
including an SQL Debugger and 64 bit Platform Support. Server9 is a
embedded client/server data management system that provides both ISAM
table-based and SQL-based data access, enabling application developers
to easily chart a growth path for legacy database applications to
today's modern techniques.
Performance Enhancements:
* 64-bit Windows and Linux Servers: The Advantage Database Server
was ported to run as a native 64-bit application on the x64 versions of
Windows and Linux greatly increasing memory usage capabilities.
* SQL Engine and Filter Performance Enhancements: The server will
now use a more efficient method to optimise multi-segmented filters.
Since filters are used extensively by the SQL engine, this optimisation
will provide a positive impact on the performance of SQL statements as
well.
Productivity Enhancements
* SQL Debugger: A visual SQL debugger has been added to the
Advantage Data Architect, allowing developers to debug SQL scripts,
stored procedures, triggers and user defined functions by using
breakpoints, and call stack/variable inspection.
* Dynamic Server Configuration: If all the available resources are
in use, Advantage will automatically adjust to handle the new
requirements.
