Wyeth, Madison, NJ, has introduced Centrum Cardio complete
multivitamin, which uses Corowise plant sterols to lower cholesterol. In
combination with a healthy diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol,
Wyeth claims adults who take two tablets daily could see a drop in
cholesterol numbers in as few as 4 weeks. Research indicates that plant
sterols, natural compounds found in fruits, vegetables and other whole
grains and vegetable oils, effectively lower cholesterol, which is a
major risk factor for heart disease.
