Hart launches "Law and Humanities" and Yearbook.

Legal Publisher • Feb, 2008 •

Hart Publishing (Oxford, UK) has begun the publication of two new periodicals, including "Law and Humanities," a journal, and the "Irish Yearbook of International Law."

"Law and Humanities" will be published twice a year to be a forum for debate within the arts and humanities around the subject of law. Hart said the arts and humanities are taken to include literature, history (including art history), philosophy, theology, classics and the range of performance and representational arts, and that the journal's editorial range does not extend to consideration of the laws that regulate practical aspects of the arts and humanities, such as the law of intellectual property.

Hart said the journal is mainly concerned with the exchange of information on those aspects of human experience that are not empirically quantifiable or scientifically predictable. Each issue will carry four or five major articles of between 8,000 and 12,000 words each, with shorter papers (up to 4,000 words) sharing good practice in law and humanities education, reports of conferences, and reviews of books and other artistic endeavors.

Articles included in initial issues cover topics such as: legal education, sovereignty before the law, notable trials an criminal justice between 1750-1930, politics, law and religion, terrorists and society, the tragedy of law in Shakespearean romance, and the nature of law and sovereign power.

Also, the "Irish Yearbook of International Law presents academic articles and book reviews on general issues of international law. Published annually, the title includes articles on: international law developments in Ireland; Irish practice in international for a and the European Union, and the relations between the North and South of Ireland, as well as examinations of documents that reflect Irish practice on contemporary issues of international law.

Hart said the title seeks to promote a multilateral approach to international affairs, reflecting that country's long-standing commitment to multilateralism as a core element of foreign relations.

Hart produces ten other legal journals, including "European Competition Journal," Judicial Review," "Legal Ethics," "Legisprudence" and "Journal of Private International Law."
