Sage Publications (Thousand Oaks, CA) has published
"Introduction to Criminology," a new textbook/reader that is
divided into 14 sections that contain information on all topics relevant
to an introduction to criminology course. Following an introductory
overview, each section has a summary of concepts, developments,
controversial issues and research in the criminology field being
covered, with special emphasis modern psychosocial and biosocial
theories and concepts. It covers a wide variety of crime typologies,
including serial killing, terrorism, substance abuse, white-collar
crime, and organized crime. The book also includes a CD that carries a
variety of instructor resources, including computerized testing, slides
and teaching activities. It costs $70.
Nova Science Publishers (Hauppauge, NY) has released 'Race and
Crime: A biosocial Analysis," a new book that examines the issue of
racial variation in crime rates in the U.S. and other countries using a
variety of data sources. It includes discussion of the latest genetic
data asserting the reality of the concept of race, and the various lines
of evidence from population genetics, evolutionary biology and
anthropology pertinent to the evolution of racial differences in
behavior. It examines racial differences in crimes such as mass, spree,
and serial killing, hate crime, white-collar crime, and organized crime.
Content also includes analysis of the impact of the experience of
slavery and Jim Crow laws on African-Americans, and the role of poverty,
inner city ecology, child abuse and neglect, the devaluation of
education and out-of-wedlock births from a biosocial perspective. It
costs $27.
