Just wanted to write and say thank you, BLACK ENTERPRISE, for your
article "Jump Ship on Your Wireless Contract" (Shopsmart,
January 2008).
I was mortified when I received a recent phone bill--and I just
happened to be looking through the new issue of BE and this article
caught my eye. It mentioned, in summary, that you can cancel your
contract with your carrier if changes were made to your contract without
notification, and the change was materially adverse to the consumer.
That made me take a second look at my bill and, to my dismay, I was
being charged for two cell phone plans (without my knowledge or
permission) causing more than $500 to be charged to my account. This
article gave me some leverage with my cell phone company when I settled
the disputed charges.
I would urge consumers to read their wireless contracts carefully
and review their bills every month. I appreciate the empowerment offered
through BLACK ENTERPRICE magazine!
