LandOwner newsletter editor Mike Walsten reports that farmland
values continue to soar. He says, "Farmers are the number one
buyers of Mid-western farmland and we've seen values in some areas
jump by almost 50% since last fall.
"It's driven by the strong demand for corn, soybeans and
wheat and projections these strong prices could hang around for a few
years."
He reports a recent auction in Cedar Cty, IA, brought prices of
$5,943 to $6,650 per acre. Another auction in early February in
Poweshiek Cty, IA, brought $7,800 an acre.
"Illinois, likewise, has rung the $7,000-bell several
times," he says.
