Compressor suppliers in high gear serving global refrigeration needs: control systems and new refrigerants part of response to changing times.

Quick Frozen Foods International • April, 2008 • MANUFACTURERS' SHOWCASE

Building on the experience of R744 compressors for heat pumps, the company has expanded the application range of its C[O.sub.2] compressors to commercial refrigeration systems. Its R744 line comprises vertical and horizontal single speed CO2 compressors for commercial refrigeration systems, C-C Type and C-CH Type models, which are sold in the Europe, China and Japan.

ACC Appliances Components Companies, Madison, Alabama, USA, has also gotten into C[O.sub.2] (R744) systems as well as a high efficiency range that is said to cut energy consumption by 20% compared to standard compressors; the new units, introduced at the AHR Expo New Product Technology Theater in January, are available for R134A and R404A, for LBP and HMBP applications. ACC's new S range, with a redesigned model for better performance and noise reduction, was also introduced.

It's a new name, but with the same high standards. Mycom has recently become Mayekawa as part of its Japanese parent company, but will continue to market its full line of high-quality bare screw and reciprocating compressors under the Mycom brand, which has been known around the world since 1924.

Mayekawa also has a full line of compressor packages, compressor retro-fit control panels, and custom-engineered packaged refrigeration skids. It keeps a complete stock of replacement parts in numerous locations throughout North America as well as offers factory rebuilding of compressors. Among its products is the I-Series compressor, a low cost answer to the 75 to 150TR compressor market.

Vilter Manufacturing Corp., Cudahy, Wisconsin, USA, has a brochure that tells all about how design and operational differences allow the company's single-screw compressors to outperform twin-screw compressors.

The brochure provides specifications for all 12 models comprising the VSS line, and also includes dimensional drawings. A full load power and capacity chart identifies corresponding percentage savings compared to twin-screw compressors. An Isentropic Efficiency/Compression Ratio graph illustrates the operational high efficiency of the Vilter Parallex Slide System compared to single slide fixed volume ratios.

Also included is a detailed review of the VSS single-screw compression cycle and control process, along with photos, charts, graphs, diagrams, detailed illustrations, and a description of the Vilter 5/15 warranty.

Why specify and install an RWF II from Frick/Johnson Controls, Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, USA? Because, the company says, "The Best Just Got Better!"

The RWF II's sleek new lines are said to be the perfect size and heights for startup applications, keeping space requirements and building costs to a minimum. Just 10' 5" x 5' 3" (Model 134), it fits the smallest of spaces to expand operating capacity without new construction.

Smart Series[TM] motors have a robust design for industrial duty. Special Vacuum Pressurized Impregnation (VPI) of the rotors is an option on most offerings. VPI is a Frick standard that protects motors in the rigorous environment of an industrial engine room. The new, mounted solid-state starter is designed to reduce power consumption during startup and to keep the field technician in mind.

The in-line starter uses a traditional connection configuration that is easily understood by electricians. It is positioned directly beneath the motor on the compressor package to reduce overall length and ensure a clean look for the engine room. For any environment, new or old, RWF II conveniently positions critical service points and openings on a single side. Efficient rows of packages can hug the wall and still allow easy maintenance.

Want to cut downtime on compressors you already have? Check out Compressor Engineering Corp. (CECO), which can express ship replacement parts for Mycom[R] and Vilter[R] ammonia compressors--plus compressor filters for Chilicom[R], Cimco[R], Frick[R], M&M[R], Reco[R], Sabroe[R], Stal[R] and Toromont[R] models.

CECO offers complete manufacturing capabilities with in-house heat treatment facilities. Mycom and Vilter items available in stock include valve parts, cylinder liners, pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts, bearings and gaskets. All are built to meet or exceed OEM specifications.

Advanced materials for valve plates reduce wear and lengthen service life, and the company's exclusive upgrade to 17-7 ph stainless steel also provides improved corrosion resistance and strength. CECO O-rings for shaft seal assemblies, moreover, are fabricated with neoprene to extend service life and save on maintenance.

Green Compressor Module Reaches Barbados Dairy

Smartcool Systems, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has inked a deal to supply its Energy Savings Module[TM] to Barbados Dairy Industries (BDI) of St. Michael, Barbados.

Smartcool evaluated BDI's facility and calculated electricity consumption reduction of approximately 370,000 kWh a year, saving approximately $50,000 and reducing annual greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 500,000 pounds. That's equal to providing electricity to 35 homes a year and planting 271 acres of trees.

The BDI site is a full service dairy production facility including ice banks, manufacturing, cold storage area, ice cream freezing and container refrigerators. In addition, Smartcool is installing an ESM to further maximize the efficiency of the compressors servicing the corporate office's air conditioning system.

Barbados Dairy Industries is a subsidiary of Banks Holdings Limited (BHL).
