At the January American Foundry Society, (AFS) board of directors meeting, a petition was approved to create a new AFS Student Chapter at Texas State Univ., San Marcos, Texas. The new student chapter faculty advisor is Dr. Robert Habingreither, associate dean of the College of Science. Texas State Univ.-San Marcos, an accredited school since 1990, is already active in FEF, the Foundation for Metalcasting Education.

The AFS Texas Chapter underwrote the first year of membership for all students interested in joining the new chapter. At a recent state chapter meeting, the AFS Texas Chapter also awarded scholarships to seven Texas State Univ.-San Marcos students.

"We have had outstanding political support from AFS and the Texas Chapter," Habingreither said. "They were the ones who originally planted the seed for the future of our program."
