The Ethanol Promotion and Information Council (EPIC; Omaha, NE) and ZimmComm New Media (Holts Summit, MO), the producer of the agricultural news release service AgNewsWire as well as industry blogs, podcasts and RSS feeds, have begun the publication of "Ethanol Retailer," a quarterly magazine that covers the ethanol industry from the perspective of the fuel retailer. The new title has a controlled circulation of 22,000 independent fuel retailers and station owners that service nearly seven million flexible-fuel vehicles in the U.S.

The premier issue debuted at the National Ethanol Conference held in Florida at the end of February. EPIC said the new title is designed to cover the business of ethanol through news, facts and resources, profiles of successful retailers, retailing operation issues, and government updates. The cover story for the premier issue highlights industry and stte developments affecting ethanol retailers.

Content in the first issue also include stories and articles on safety certification requirements for E85 fuel dispensers, renewable fuel alternatives, car manufacturer plans for flex fuel auto production, online resources for ethanol performance, and an overview of the Energy Independence and Security Act, the history of alternative fuels.

Publisher Robert White said "we've created a magazine ... that addresses the higher blends of ethanol from the retail standpoint. We're going to introduce readers to retailers that have made America's flex fuel a significant, positive addition to their business." The new magazine is "an extension of our marketing and sales force to make a case for the use of E85 and to help retailers and station owners offer alternatives to gasoline. The station owners need to know that EPIC, and the magazine, are here to support them and their decision to sell E85. We've committed to a two year program at a quarterly frequency."

Other alternative energy trade titles include "Ethanol Producer," "Biomass Magazine" and "Biodiesel Magazine" from BBI International Media (Grand Forks, ND), "Alternative Energy Retailer" from Zackin Publications (Oxford, CT) and "enerG Alternative Sources" (Vancouver, BC) from the company of the same name, among others.
