The seventh-annual World Toilet Summit began in New Delhi on Oct.
31, in collaboration with the World Toilet Organization, according to
Reuters. Experts in health and sanitation convened to discuss ways to
provide functioning toilets to everyone on the planet by 2025.
Highlights of the 4-day session included a visit to a toilet museum,
designation of 2008 as the "Year of Sanitation," and a session
devoted to case studies. The Web site www.worldtoiletsummit2007.org
described the meeting as a chance to "be the first to hear the
experiences of those involved in the implementation of People-Centric
Toilet Projects." The summit came in advance of World Toilet Day,
Nov. 19, described by the WTO as a day "to have people in all
countries to take action, increase awareness of toilet user's right
to a better toilet environment, and to demand for it [sic] from toilet
owners" where "the restroom community-at-large celebrates with
a new declaration for the forthcoming year." Abstracts for toilet
papers were due by June 30, so our apologies if you missed the deadline.
And in case the magazine you're currently holding in your hands
isn't enough, the organization's Web site also features a
"Toilet Entertainment" section.
