LIBERIA'S REVENUES FROM ships flying its flag of convenience are expected to rise to US$19mn in 2008, from US$17mn in 2007, the company that manages the register said. Liberia's is the second biggest flag of convenience registry after Panama, and a top revenue earner for the government as it tries to rebuild a country devastated by a 14 years of on-off civil war that ended in 2003. "This fiscal year, we intend to generate US$19mn from the registry. Last year, we generated US$17mn. The revenue intake was low due to the political situation in the country over past time," said Joseph Keller, general manager of the Liberia Ship and Corporate Registry (LISCR).
