Two 800 000 t/a alumina units approved in
Shanxi.
In March 2008 the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC)
approved the Aluminum Corporation of China Limited to launch an 800 000
t/a alumina project at Long' erhui, Xiwatang Town, Xing County in
Shanxi province. The project will use the Bayer process. A 50 MW
co-generation plant, a bauxite mine and auxiliary systems will also be
constructed.
Meanwhile, NDRC also approved Shanxi Yangquan Coal Industry (Group)
Co., Ltd. to build an additional 800 000 t/a alumina project at its
existing mining site in Yangquan of Shanxi province. The project
includes a Bayer-process sintering system, auxiliary facilities such as
a 50 MW co-generation plant and a 1.15 million t/a bauxite mine.
These two projects will help supply alumina and stabilize the price
of alumina in the domestic market.
