Kenora's Weyerhaeuser mill manager Bill Candline appeared with Kenora mayor Leonard Compton before a Federal Standing Committee of the Department of Natural Resources, March 11, to discuss the future of the forest industry

They expressed concern on the future of the forest industry and what the federal government can do to help soften the blow to small towns like Kenora.

They would like to see the scientific research and education tax credits fully refundable to Canadian companies. The way it works now is a company has to be profitable to take advantage of it.

The industry needs to be investing in research and making improvements during both good times and bad, Candline said and the government cannot help with many of the fundamental problems, like the number of houses built in the U.S., but it should take action where it can.
