City projects recognized by Alabama League of Municipalities.

The 2008 Municipal Achievement Awards, presented by the Alabama League of Municipalities, recognizes "successful and innovative municipal projects that improve the quality of life for citizens and add value to the community by establishing partnerships and building community support."

Town of Fiomaton, Population Category 1,001 to 5,000: Four-Laning of Highway 113

Pledges were made by Flomaton and Escambia Counties in Alabama and Florida to construct a four-lane highway from a two-lane highway.

The highway is the hurricane evacuation route from Florida that bottlenecks year after year.

City of Brewton, Population Category 5,000 to 10,000: Brewton Television

Brewton Television started in 1996 as a scrolling-text government access channel on local cable. Today it runs live, onsite broadcasts and is available 24 hours a day, even days a week.

Streaming videos of some programs are transmitted on the Internet.

City of Helena, Population Category 10,001 to 20,000: "Our Secret is Out"

Helena was listed in the top 100 places to live in America in Money Magazine.

The city has managed to grow into a city offering major conveniences while maintaining the look and feel of a small, quaint town.

City of Selma, Public Service Category: TRUSTBuild

Teaming to Restore Unity, Safety and Trust (TRUSTBuild) is a community development and outreach strategy that provides a safe and secure community for all the citizens of Selma.

TRUSTBuild was also a 2007 winner of the National League of Cities' Awards for Municipal Excellence.

City of Monroeville, Public Safety Category: State Certification Training Center

The volunteer fire department started a major building project for a training center that was approved by the Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission.

The department has expanded its services and provides a hazardous materials unit and a confined space rescue unit.

City of Auburn, Economic Development Category: Northwest Village Subdivision

The subdivision is an affordable housing section funded by the Community Development Block Grant to benefit low- to moderate-income households.
