Northern Ontario residents and leaders will have the opportunity to
participate in the development of the draft of the Northern Ontario
Growth Plan through two sessions to be held Friday, May 23.
Meetings will begin at 11 a.m. at Wawa's Community Centre and
at 10 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Sault Ste. Marie-Waterfront Hotel and
continue for four-hours.
When complete, the plan will represent a look at sustainable
prosperity for the next 25 to 30 years through a series of initiatives.
These include the development of growing industries, strengthened by
resource-based industries, research, education, and an influx of new
residents.
A 17-member ministers' table known as the "G-North"
has begun meeting, bringing together all the ministries needed to make
the plan happen. Further public opportunities to participate in the
process will later include a series of policy forums highlighting
successful approaches from other areas around the world.
