Nominations open for the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor.

The Department of Justice's Office of justice Programs is currently accepting nominations for the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor, the highest national award for valor by a public safety officer.

The medal is awarded by the President to public safety officers who have exhibited exceptional courage in protecting or saving lives over the past year (June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008).

Nominations are due by Thursday, July 31, at 8 p.m. EDT.
