Santa Fe, NM., Buffalo, N.Y., and New York City were voted the top
arts destinations in the annual readers' poll conducted by the arts
lifestyle magazine American-Style.
With nearly 300 galleries and more than a dozen major museums,
Santa Fe was named the favorite in the fewer than 100,000 population
class
Buffalo, whose mayor declared 2008 the "Year of the
Arts," and which will open an expanded Burchfield-Penney Art Center
at its new location on the Buffalo State College campus this fall,
topped the list in the 100,000 to 499,999 population category.
New York took the top spot in the 500,000 and above population
class for the fifth year in a row. The New Museum of Contemporary Art
opened in December; the new Museum of Arts and Design, which will open
in September, will dedicate galleries to its growing permanent
collection.
Lists of the top 25 winners and profiles of the top three dries in
each population category are featured on www.AmericanStyle.com.
