Alcan Packaging Cumbria has taken awards in gold, silver and bronze
at this year's EFTA UK Awards. With four wins in the print
category, Alcan Packaging also claimed the highest accolade for both the
Cash in Waste Award and the EFTA Challenge.
Entrants were high in quality and number for the Cash in Waste
Award, but judges commented that Alcan Packaging "really stood out
from the crowd". Following a site-wide initiative, Alcan Packaging
Cumbria has successfully achieved a considerable drop in the volume of
waste it sends to landfill each year, and now ensures that 95 per cent
of all site waste is recycled.
"Every single employee here at the site does their bit to
reduce our carbon footprint and we're delighted that EFTA has
recognised our efforts," said Mark Suitor, managing director, Alcan
Packaging Cumbria.
"What started out as a small team of employees encouraging
'green' awareness within the site, is now a phenomenally
successful workforce-lead project that we intend to maintain."
Adding to its success, Alcan Packaging won four further awards in
silver and bronze in the print categories for its production of Frisps
28g Cheese and Onion packs for United Biscuits in the Wide Web Line /
Screen category, Fruit Flakes Strawberry and Fruit Flakes Raisin &
Yoghurt packs for Stream Foods in the Best off Shelf Category, and
Orangina 99p, in the Wide Web Line / Screen Category and Im Bru Original
& Best Christmas Promotion in the Wide Web Process Category; both
produced for Barfs Soft Drinks.
