THE COLLECTED WISDOM OF ...
Name: R. David Russell
Title: President
Organization: Apollo Gold Corporation
Residence: Denver, CO (Timmins)
Q If you weren't in this line of work, what would you be doing?
Designing and building sailboats.
Q What's the best advice you've ever received?
Manage and treat people how you would like to be treated and you will find you will be much more successful with the people that respect you for the right decisions, which may not necessarily be the most popular decisions.
Q Professionally, who has inspired you the most?
My father inspired me the most. My father is also in the mining business - Robert (Bob) Russell - and is one of the most experienced mine design and feasibility engineers in the world. He has brought many very large copper, gold and molybdenum deposits through feasibility and some through full construction and into production in his career.
Q Do you have a favorite motto?
Those that never give up have a higher rate of success. Or, I (or we) can rest when we die.

Q What's the toughest business decision you've ever had to make?
The decision to shut down a long running mine due to economics is always the toughest business decision. The decision impacts people and this can be difficult at times if you care about the employees and families that have supported the mine through the years.
