Odor-Management Plan available for mushroom growers.

Mushroom News • August, 2008 • composting & raw materials

A Mushroom Substrate Preparation Odor-Management Plan is now available for mushroom growers. Produced by Penn State's Dr. David Beyer and the College of Agricultural Sciences, the plan outlines various methods of preparing a selective substrate for mushroom production, monitoring and odor reduction opportunities.

The reason for the document is outlined in the plan's introduction. "The purpose of a management plan is to describe the substrate-preparation process, its operational variables and limitations, suggested testing and monitoring procedures and to provide a contingency plan to minimize or avoid impact on the environment while maintaining substrate quality."
