AFS to hold energy savings workshop, seeks to develop
energy working group.
The increasing cost of energy has had a major effect on the
metalcasting industry, consuming a greater portion of each
facility's operating budget. In addition to affecting
profitability, energy use has been shown to be a contributor to climate
change, which will receive increased scrutiny in the coming years. In
response to this issue, the American Foundry Society (AFS) is sponsoring
a free energy savings workshop on Nov. 4 at AFS Headquarters,
Schaumburg, Ill. The workshop will initiate an increased focus on
helping the metalcasting industry benefit from energy reduction
technologies. If sufficient interest exists, an AFS energy working group
will be established to promote energy related activities and education.
"It is vital that AFS be proactive with energy issues relating
to metalcasting facilities," said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice
president. "The upcoming energy savings workshop will be a great
way to pull metalcasters together and discuss these important
issues."
