Higher speed Sienna offers flexibility.

Food Trade Review • July, 2008 • PACKAGING

Further demonstrating its ongoing commitment to innovation and technical development, Ulma Packaging has introduced the Sienna (inverted) fully automatic horizontal form, fill and seal flow-wrapper (HFFS).

Ideally suited to the fresh produce, cheese and meat sectors, this higher speed model combines the benefit of advanced performance with hygienic design and much simpler operation.

Hailed by Ulma as the flagship model in its expanding range of HFFS flow-wrappers for produce, the Sienna has been developed to operate at speeds up to 70 packs per minute, depending on product dimensions, making it suitable for medium to high volume food applications.

The versatile and flexible machine features a new electronic platform powered by independent servo motors controlling the 400mm-wide box motion cross sealing jaw, film feed and two-metre long in-feed conveyor.

Easy to install, set-up, operate, clean and maintain, the Sienna flow-wrapper has been specially designed to meet today's increasingly stringent food industry hygiene requirements. As a result, it is built on a stainless steel frame with a modern, cantilever construction for quick and easy access to mechanical and electrical components.

A touch screen control panel makes setting up new products and day-to-day operation simple and intuitive. It allows various parameter settings for each product, including bag length, speed, sealing and time. Real time reporting and diagnostics keep production personnel informed and down time to an absolute minimum.

In addition, the Sienna offers motorised height adjustment of the longitudinal sealing system and for added flexibility, the sealing head is equipped with an independent motor for optimising cycle time and production of minimum length packs. It also incorporates an easy access reel holder, motorised film unwinding system, and 'no product - no bag' and 'misplaced product safety' functions as standard.

The machine can be adapted to work with a variety of films, including PO, BOPP, P-Plus, mixed BOPP and PO, and LDPE. Windows based software can be provided and optional extras include a variety of different in-feed conveyors and printing equipment, photocell for print registered film, closing belt for short sizes, and a special version with 550mm-wide jaws for larger products.
